Supporting Fund4Trees Through Action

Supporting the arboricultural industry goes beyond the work we carry out day to day.

Our Managing Director, Simon, has been getting involved with Fund4Trees, a charity focused on sustainable treescapes, education and research into trees and their management.

His involvement has included taking part in cycling activities to help support the charity’s fundraising, as well as joining initiatives that bring arboriculture into communities and help more people understand the importance of trees.

One recent example took him to The Willow Tree School in Harrogate, where around 400 pupils had the chance to see professional arboriculture in action.

What Is Fund4Trees?

Fund4Trees is a charity promoting sustainable treescapes and providing research funding for urban tree management.

Its work has three main aims:

  • Promoting the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment through sustainable treescapes

  • Advancing public education around the conservation, protection and improvement of trees

  • Supporting research into trees and making useful results available for public benefit

Fundraising plays an important part in supporting that work, with cycling activities forming one of the ways the charity raises money for tree research.

Simon has been getting involved with these rides as part of his support for the Fund4Trees cause.

Taking Arboriculture Into Schools

Simon recently joined a Fund4Trees initiative at The Willow Tree School in Harrogate.

During the morning, Bartlett Tree Experts delivered a demonstration of the safe removal of a compromised willow tree in front of around 400 pupils.

For the children watching, it was a chance to see professional arboriculture taking place directly in front of them and to learn more about tree safety and management.

That kind of exposure can make a big difference in helping young people understand what arborists actually do and why certain decisions are made when managing trees.

Planting a New Willow for the Future

The morning was not only focused on the removal of the existing tree.

A new willow was planted to succeed the original, giving the pupils the chance to see both the removal and replacement sides of tree management.

It helped show that arboriculture is not only about removing trees when necessary, but also about thinking about what comes next.

For Simon, being part of a day like this is a good example of why supporting Fund4Trees matters.

Why Simon Is Supporting Fund4Trees

Simon has spent his career working within arboriculture, so supporting a charity connected directly to trees, research and education is something that sits naturally alongside the work Beechwood does.
