Mechanised Tree Removal
Modern Tree Removal: Using Mechanised Solutions to Work Safer, Smarter and More Sustainably
Tree removal has changed significantly over the last decade. While traditional climbing and sectional dismantling still have their place, modern projects increasingly demand greater control, improved safety and reduced environmental impact. That’s where mechanised solutions come into their own.
In this project, we used a SENNEBOGEN material handler to carry out controlled tree removal and site clearance, a method that demonstrates how the right machinery, used by experienced operators, can transform how complex arboricultural work is delivered.
Why mechanised tree removal?
Mechanised tree removal is not about replacing skill, it’s about applying skill differently. On the right sites, using heavy plant allows us to:
Reduce time spent working at height
Minimise manual handling risks
Improve control when handling large stems and timber
Maintain safer exclusion zones in live environments
By processing trees mechanically, we significantly reduce exposure to risk while maintaining precision and control throughout the operation.
The role of the SENNEBOGEN
The SENNEBOGEN is designed for environments where reach, stability and visibility are critical. Its long reach and excellent operator sightlines allow large sections of timber to be handled safely and accurately, even in constrained or sensitive locations.
For this project, the machine enabled us to:
Grasp, hold and remove large tree sections in a controlled manner
Maintain clear separation between operatives and moving loads
Reduce the need for complex rigging systems
Keep the site organised and efficient throughout the works
This approach not only improves safety but also allows works to progress more efficiently, reducing disruption and programme length.
Safety first, always
Safety remains the driving force behind every decision we make on site. Mechanised removal allows us to:
Limit work at height
Reduce fatigue for operatives
Maintain consistent exclusion zones
Keep ground staff clear of suspended loads
All works are planned through task-specific RAMS, with competent supervision and clear communication between machine operators and ground teams. The machinery does not replace good planning, it relies on it.
Sustainability and biomass recycling
Sustainability is built into how we deliver projects, not added on at the end.
All suitable timber and arisings generated from this work were recycled into biomass, supporting renewable energy generation and reducing waste sent to landfill. By closing the loop in this way, we:
Maximise the value of removed material
Reduce transport and disposal impacts
Support local and regional energy supply chains
This is a practical example of how responsible tree management and environmental commitment can work hand in hand.
Choosing the right solution
Mechanised tree removal isn’t the answer to every job, but when it’s right, it’s the safest, most efficient and most sustainable option available.
At Beechwood Trees and Landscapes, we focus on choosing the right method for each site, combining experienced people, modern equipment and detailed planning to deliver work properly, safely and responsibly.
